The Bluebird Moon Promise & Shop Policies

Thank you so much for bringing a piece of our farm to your home! We want your garden to thrive! Please take a moment to read through how we handle our tuber sales, shipping, and plant health.

Our Tuber Guarantee

We guarantee that your tuber will be true to the cultivar you ordered and will arrive with at least one visible eye.

  • Upon Arrival: Please inspect your tubers as soon as they arrive! If you have any concerns, just contact us with your order number and photos within 48 hours of delivery.

  • The Bloom Guarantee: If your dahlia blooms and-by rare chance-isn’t the variety you ordered, please send us a photo of the flower. We’ll always make it right.

  • Beyond the Farm: Once those 48 hours have passed, the tubers are officially in your care. We want you to have a successful season! However, please understand we cannot be held responsible for damage due to improper storage, inclement weather, pests, virus, growing conditions, negligence, or general plant performance.

Shipping

We ship via USPS Priority Mail to the contiguous United States and Alaska.

  • Shipping Rates:

    1-3 Tubers $12.00

    4-15 Tubers $17.50

    16-25 Tubers $23.50

    26-40 Tubers $32.50

    40+ Tubers $45.00

  • Timeline: Shipping begins in April, once it’s safe for tubers to travel without freezing. You’ll get a tracking email the moment they head your way!

  • Combined Shipping: If you place multiple orders to snag your favorite varieties, we are happy to combine them. Orders must be made with the exact same email, name and address. We will refund the shipping difference minus a small $5.00 handling fee per additional order. This helps us cover the non-refundable payment processing fees and the extra time we spend merging your packages. Your refund will be issued at the time of shipment. If your first order has already been sent out, unfortunately we will not be able to refund shipping for additional orders.

Ordering

  • Checkout: Please note items in your cart are not reserved. Your order is only official once you receive a confirmation number.

  • Cancellations: To keep our systems organized during the busy season, we cannot accept cancellations or changes once an order is placed.

  • Substitutions: We do not substitute. In the rare event a variety doesn’t survive winter storage, we will issue a full refund for that item.

  • Variety Limits: To help these blooms reach as many gardens as possible, certain varieties are limited to one per customer. We kindly ask that you respect these limits. Bluebird Moon reserves the right to cancel and refund any orders that exceed the stated limit to maintain fairness for all growers.

Our Commitment to Plant Health

Bluebird Moon is a licensed nursery, inspected by the New York State Department of Agriculture. We take the health of our plants very seriously.

  • During the inspection and throughout the season, we monitor the field and immediately cull any plants that show potential symptoms of virus.

  • We sanitize our snips between every single plant and tuber and do not allow U-picks to prevent cross-contamination.

  • We never resell imported tubers. Every tuber we sell was grown right here by us in the Catskill Mountains.

Unfortunately, virus in dahlias is incredibly common, and often asymptomatic. While we do our best to cull anything suspect, please keep in mind that we do not test every plant. Because of these factors, as well as numerous others, we cannot guarantee a tuber is virus free, but will continue to do our part to grow the healthiest plants. By purchasing our tubers you are confirming your understanding and acceptance that dahlias, like any other plant, can carry disease.

Licensed Varieties

Bluebird Moon is proud to be a licensed seller of Santa Cruz Dahlias® (varieties with the KA’s® prefix). By purchasing these trademarked varieties, you are directly supporting the work of their hybridizer. We include a royalty in our pricing to ensure these creators are fairly compensated for the years of work and innovation behind every bloom.

Guidelines for Growing & Sharing: To respect the trademark of these varieties, we ask our customers to observe the following terms:

  • Feel Free To: Grow, multiply, trade, or donate your plants. You are also welcome to harvest, share, or sell seeds, and sell the cut flowers of these varieties.

  • A Note on Resale: While we encourage you to share the beauty of these dahlias, please note that tubers, cuttings, or plants may not be sold without a direct license from Santa Cruz Dahlias®.
